Abstract: In 2024, the world saw an increase in another vector-borne disease threat - Oropouche virus (OROV). With 108 cases ot imported OROV in the U.S. (primarily in Florida) in 2024, the CDC tasked AMCA and its membership to aid in understanding the local vectors of this disease. As such, we've established a network of mosquito control professionals througout the country to add Culicoides surveillance to their routine trapping. These programs are providing samples directly to the CDC in an effort to update the distribution maps of Culicoides paraensis within the continental United States. Additionally, we have funded 7 separate AMCA member projects to evaluate the efficacy of various management efforts for Culicoides. Although these projects are ongoing, our intent will be to prepare a detailed surveillance and management guidance document by early 2026 that will aid agencies in the event this invasive vector-borne disease takes hold locally.
