Abstract: Despite receiving 5 inches (12.7 cm) of rain annually, the Coachella Valley is home to human created and maintained duck clubs and marshes adjacent to the Salton Sea, a large, inland, saltwater lake. These habitats attract a diverse community of native and migratory birds and provide a source for primarily Culex tarsalis mosquitoes. Surveillance and control in these habitats is difficult due to soft clay soils, where heavy equipment can get stuck. Here, we will share some recent evaluations of pesticide applications, including some made with drone equipment.
