Abstract: The Local Legislative Issues Subcommittee is a relatively new subcommittee under the umbrella of the Legislative and Regulatory Committees with the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA). This subcommittee specifically deals with “local issues” which is to say that if there is legislation introduced dealing with mosquito control at some level, AMCA recognizes that this may present a risk for the issue to become regional, state or national at some point in time. What the subcommittee strives to do is mitigate negative effects on such programs. Subcommittee members include mostly individuals who work for government mosquito control programs from around the United States. This helps encourage different perspectives and experiences that these individuals have faced. We also work closely with various stakeholders such as the AMCA technical adviser, AMCA regional representatives and Board of Directors (BOD), associations, such as Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment (RISE), state regulation agencies, and state or regional mosquito control association members which may have similar concerns when legislation is introduced. This is usually presented in the form of a “strike team” across various groups. This presentation will present scenarios that were managed in 2025, the challenges faced as these scenarios emerged, the strategies deployed, and how this subcommittee may evolve over time to help deal with various scenarios in the future.
