Abstract: The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) historically relied on a manual, fragmented process to manage its vector surveillance data. This involved paper worksheets, multiple Excel files, and repetitive hand-offs where staff spent days aggregating, calculating, and formatting data for stakeholders. These inefficiencies hindered NSMAD’s ability to modernize its operations and provide timely public access to surveillance results.
To address these challenges, Lantern Collaborative partnered with NSMAD to design and implement an automated, end-to-end data management and reporting system that streamlines data entry, transformation, and visualization into a unified workflow. Field data can now be entered electronically using a single app, automatically flowing into a centralized location that transforms raw data, calculates industry standard metrics e.g. vector index, and updates interactive dashboards in real time.
The successful transformation of the workflow reduced manual effort, improved data accuracy, and enabled rapid dissemination of results to stakeholders and the public, turning a once labor-intensive process into a modern, automated ecosystem.
