Deputy General Manager Placer Mosquito & Vector Control District, California, United States
Abstract: Placer County, California continues to experience significant suburban growth bringing residential development closer to agricultural areas and creating a diverse landscape of mosquito habitats. This evolving environment challenges traditional vector control practices as Aedes aegypti establishes within expanding neighborhoods and Culex species persist in agricultural areas that continue to support West Nile virus (WNV) transmission.
Moving forward, effective resource management will require enhanced efficiency and prioritization within PMVCD’s integrated vector management (IVM) framework. This presentation will highlight how the District is aligning emerging technologies, habitat-specific tactics, and financial considerations to sustain effective mosquito control across a rapidly transforming agricultural–suburban interface.
