Katherine serves as the Field Research Manager at the Nolan Laboratory of Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases, where she oversees all tick surveillance for the state of South Carolina. She earned her MPH in Epidemiology from the University of South Carolina, focusing her research on developing innovative arthropod surveillance studies and integrating animal health, human health, and vector ecology within the One Health approach. Katherine established a collaborative research network to study avian louse flies and their potential role in the sylvatic cycle of the West Nile virus. Additionally, she has contributed to outbreak investigations concerning the invasive Asian longhorned tick, La Crosse virus, Lyme disease in North Carolina, and rickettsial infections in South Carolina. She also leads CDC-funded projects through the Southeastern Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases, focusing on implementing studies that address immediate public health threats posed by vector-borne diseases.
