Dr. Alan Wheeler is the Director of the Cayman Islands Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU). He has over twenty years of experience in mosquito research and control, having first joined MRCU in 1999 as a Research Officer and later serving as Deputy Director before assuming leadership in 2020. Dr. Wheeler holds a B.Sc. in Applied Zoology from Bangor University, an M.Sc. in Medical Entomology and Applied Parasitology, and a Ph.D. from Keele University, where he studied the control of insect vectors of leishmaniasis. Before joining MRCU, he worked as an environmental chemist in the UK monitoring industrial pollution. His work focuses on developing sustainable, research-based approaches to mosquito management and improving integrated vector control strategies across the Cayman Islands.
