Graduate Research Assistant
University of South Carolina, South Carolina, United States
Hello, my name is Nyame Mustapha Murtala. I am a third-year PhD student at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. I am currently a graduate research assistant at the Vector-borne and Zoonotic Disease Laboratory at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. My research focuses on modelling mosquito-borne disease risk. I take mosquito surveillance data, layer it with land-use and climatic data, and turn it into maps and alerts that help teams act earlier and target smarter. I am currently working on modelling the abundance of Aedes species along the coast of South Carolina, specifically in Charleston and Beaufort Counties, to reveal the coexistence patterns of these vectors and identify emergency risk zones under current conditions. I hope to take on this project for my dissertation and graduate in 2027.
