Katherine M. Torres Nieves, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus.
Throughout her career, Katherine has developed strong experience in community-based projects, environmental research, and public health. Her work has focused on strengthening environmental education, civic engagement, and the implementation of sustainable strategies that promote healthier and more resilient communities.
She has collaborated with various organizations, including the Corporación Proyecto ENLACE del Caño Martín Peña, where she supported popular education programs on environmental health and coordinated educational workshops for youth and adults. She has also participated in research initiatives related to the impact of climate change on corals and amphibians, as well as public health studies on mortality causes following Hurricane María and the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on communities across Puerto Rico, contributing to community data collection through the CASPER methodology.
Her experience integrates scientific research, environmental management, and community engagement, standing out for her leadership, organization, and collaborative approach. In addition, she holds certifications in health information privacy and security, reinforcing her preparation to address interdisciplinary challenges between the environment and public health.
Committed to collective well-being, Katherine continues to promote the integration of science, health, and community action to advance sustainable solutions in Puerto Rico.
