Susanna Visser, DrPH, MS is a Health Scientist (epidemiologist) who serves as the Deputy Director for Policy and Extramural Program in the Division of Vector-Borne Diseases (DVBD) for CDC’s National Center on Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases. Dr. Visser was an epidemiologist for CDC’s Child Development Studies Team for six years and lead epidemiologist for ten years. She published >50 publications on child development, behavioral disorders, and pediatrics.
In 2017, she was recruited to expand DVBD’s policy office and translate the Division’s science for policy- and decision-makers. Dr. Visser leads DVBD’s budget initiatives, directs partnership activities, briefs partners and Congress, and coordinates extramural activities. Since 2017, DVBD’s budget doubled, resulting in extramural program growth. Dr. Visser co-led the development of a national framework (2000) and all-government VBD National Strategy (2024).
Dr. Visser directs the Public Health Entomology for All (PHEFA) entomology workforce program. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Colorado School of Public Health where she teaches public health leadership in practice. She also manages the CDC-Colorado School of Public Health practicum program.
Dr. Visser received her Doctorate in Public Health (2014) and Master of Science in Epidemiology (2001) from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
