Abstract: The CDC Bottle Bioassay was conducted to determine the baseline level of insecticide resistance in local mosquitoes on Oahu against bifenthrin, the active ingredient in one of the adulticides used to respond to imported arboviral cases in Hawaii. This study recorded the baseline efficacy of bifenthrin (100% mortality) at 20-30 minutes for Aedes albopictus and at 40 minutes for Culex quinquefasciatus in the Oahu population. The exceeded threshold time of 10-20 minutes for A. albopictus, and the sensitive susceptible time of 20 minutes for C. quinquefasciatus, compared to the CDC bottle bioassay threshold time, suggests that regular monitoring of adulticide efficacy will be essential to determine local population thresholds and identify insecticide resistance.
