294 - Unexpected Partnerships and Information Gathered by Gulf South VECTOR Training and Evaluation Center From Texas and the Gulf Region

Abstract: Vector-borne diseases have increased in the past two decades. To protect public health, we must increase and strengthen our front-line defenses, which are mosquito abatement districts and public health workers. The Gulf South Vector Education Center for Training, Outreach, and Resources (Gulf South VECTOR) was funded in 2023 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NC50CK000638). This is a regional partnership of public, private, non-profit and academic programs, led by The New Orleans Mosquito Termite and Rodent Control Board, New Orleans Louisiana, and Texas A&M Extension Services, College Station, TX. States targeted include Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Aside from contributions to educating professionals both within and adjacent to the field of vector control, comes evaluating current programs performing vector control activities and building partnerships from a multitude of professional. Some partnerships have come from unexpected places. This presentation will highlight the value of forming partnerships with seemingly unrelated professionals and present some surprising preliminary themes from information gathered by program evaluations focusing on Texas, one of the partnering states within the Gulf South VECTOR collaboration.
